The engineering studies major at Â鶹¸£Àû offers an introduction to engineering while pursuing areas of specialization or additional majors, laying the groundwork for graduate studies and careers in highly specialized and in-demand fields.

Whether you dream of designing tomorrow’s green buildings, advancing health care strategies or shaping the future through public policy or law, your foundation starts here. Â鶹¸£Àû’s Engineering Studies Program allows you to build your skills and strengthen your foundation in physics, science, mathematics, and design without additional courses needed for professional certification immediately after graduation. This smaller required course load allows you to bolster your education in specialized fields with graduate school and careers in mind. You will gain the critical thinking and analytical skills taught in the major’s foundational courses, combined with the communication skills, exposure to diversity and sustainability, and other liberal arts values embedded in Centre’s renowned liberal arts and sciences framework.

Curriculum

The Engineering Studies Program is designed to allow you to amass a robust knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering and grow your skills in art, science, mathematics, and design. Among the core requirements in the engineering studies major, you will take courses in engineering, physics, math and chemistry with available electives offered with specialized careers and graduate studies in mind.   

Experiential Learning

Students engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflection to develop skills and increase knowledge retention.

Engineering studies majors at Â鶹¸£Àû have the opportunity to put theory into practice with the aid of cutting-edge equipment and software in the Maker Space, Engineering studies majors will also have the opportunity to engage in undergraduate research as well as internships.  

Internships

We're committed to helping students find quality internship experiences in the career area of their choice.

Â鶹¸£Àûgraduates have taken part in internships at Microsoft, The University of Kentucky Department of Biomedical Engineering, OnPoint Warranty Solutions, Norton Healthcare, Asurion, Hitachi Automotive and the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association.

Engineering

If you’re looking to enter the engineering workforce right after graduation, Â鶹¸£Àûalso offers a degree in engineering. This major gives you the strong foundation in science, math and physics needed to excel in engineering careers as well as engineering graduate programs and other post-graduate programs.

Dual-Degree Engineering

Â鶹¸£Àûhas cooperative dual-degree agreements with two engineering schools: Washington University—St. Louis and the University of Kentucky. After three years at Centre, students transfer to the dual-degree institution and complete their studies, usually in two years. Upon successful completion, degrees are awarded from both Â鶹¸£Àûand the engineering school.
